Vintage LAS VEGAS MATCHBOOKS Sahara Hotel Casino Cherry Patch Key Chain The Sands
A lot of vintage match books, business cards, and a key chain from early Las Vegas casinos and entertainment.
We are pleased to offer this lot of hard-to-find Las Vegas nostalgia. Included in this batch are two of the very rare Sahara matchbooks and a number of momentos from the infamous Cherry Patch Brothel. Includes a never opened plastic bag with a genuine Cherry Patch key chain. Other items include a depleted Sands matchbook, an almost-full Van De Camps matchbook, and one from Hunt's Tomato Sauce.
The now famous Sahara matchbook covers have the complete image (one complete, one partial) of the casino laid out across the bodies of the stamps (see picture) and as such as widely sought as collectibles.
The Sahara Hotel and Casino is a closed hotel casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It was in operation for 59 years from 1952 to 2011. The hotel had 1,720 guestrooms and suites with a casino covering more than 85,000 sq ft., and sits on 55 acres including the empty adjoining land. The hotel is the northernmost stop for the Las Vegas Monorail. The Sahara was the last remaining vintage "Rat Pack" casino-hotel, and anchored the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip. The porte-cochere entrance, topped by an onion-dome minaret, is designed to set the resort's warm Moroccan flavor and hospitality for arriving guests.
The items range in size, from the largest (the keychain) measuring 3 7/8 X 1 1/2 inches to the smallest matchbook (the Van De Kamps) which is 1 1/2 X 2 1/8 inches. The batch weighs 1.8 ounces.
These matchbooks date from the late 50s and early 60s, and as such have the kind of wear one would expect. As stated before, some of the matchbooks are only partially full of matches, and some like the Sands are completely depleted. We can safely say that one of the Sahara's books is completely full, the other about half full.
For collectors of vintage matchbooks, particularly those nostalgic for the 'Rat Pack' days of Vegas, this lot is a great buy!
