Description
Full, unused and unstruck 1950's vintage front strike matchbook in near mint condition from The Showboat Hotel and Casino that was located at 2800 Freemont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. This rare 28 strike matchbook was manufactured by the Universal Match Corporation in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Showboat was built by William J. Moore of the Last Frontier and J. Kell Houssel of the Las Vegas Club for million.
The first resort within Las Vegas city limits, it had 100 rooms on two floors. While Moore and Houssels ran the hotel, the casino was leased by a group of managers from the Desert Inn, including Moe Dalitz.
The Showboat opened on September 3, 1954. In 2000, the Showboat was sold and became The Castaways hotel, which was demolished on January 11, 2006 to make way for an unknown project.
The Showboat was successful until the 1990s when it suffered the same fate as the downtown casinos, which were losing business to the new megaresorts on the Las Vegas Strip.
All matchbooks are sealed in plastic wrap and shipped in a protective cardboard sleeve to prevent any damage to the product. I do combined shipping and " get it there fast" shipping. Please email me for the details. I try to charge only the actual cost of shipping and never a handling charge. Thank you.
