    Description

Poughkeepsie, NEW YORK - Vassar College - Jewett Hall - 1930: Vassar College is a private, coeducational liberal arts college in the town of Poughkeepsie, New York, in the United States. The Vassar campus comprises over 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) and more than 100 buildings, including two National Historic Landmarks and an additional National Historic Place. These buildings range in style from Collegiate Gothic to International, designed over the course of the college’s history by a range of prominent architects, including James Renwick Jr., Eero Saarinen, Marcel Breuer, and Cesar Pelli. A designated arboretum, the campus features more than 200 species of trees, a native plant preserve, and a 400-acre (1.6 km2) ecological preserve. Jewett House, a traditional residence hall, was built in 1907. Originally it was called "North" because of its position on the quad. Henry MacCracken, president of the college in 1915, decided to rename the building after Milo P. Jewett, whose liberal views on how women should be educated were instrumental in the creation of the college. Jewett's current capacity is 195 students. This Linen Era (1930-45) postcard is in good condition. Ruben Quality Views. Newburgh, New York. No. OA4152-N, No. 54.
