The Marantz PMD420 is a stereo cassette deck with Dolby B noise reduction. It was first sold by Marantz in 1985 with a recommended retail price of USD 0 and discontinued 7 years later in 1992.
This Marantz tape cassette field recorder, was known as one of the best cassette field recorders made. It features two channel input stereo recording with analog meters on the front for both as well as built in limiter and Dolby filtering options.The main PMD420 features are, tape type selection and capable of handling normal and chrome tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport. This deck has a top loading layout with the cassette compartment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well. Level meters used on the PMD420 are analog needle VU reading meters. Mechanical transport controls for reliable PMD420 transport function selection. The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the PMD420 by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies.
This unit is in excellent condition cosmetically with hardly any signs of use.
