    Description

This is an unusual antique frame that may have come from the American Centennial in 1876 in Philadelphia.  The frame is cast metal shaped as a laurel wreath with a Union shield at the top.  At the bottom is a ribbon medallion that fits in a little hole.  The medallion is not now attached and I actually have two of them.  The medallion has American symbolism and reads "Department of State United States of America."  I don't know how it would have originally been attached.
The frame is approx. 12.5 by 9.75 inches and the ribbon measures 8 inches long.  The frame has a piece of newer glass and four clips at the back....2 of these are broken though they make replacements for this style clip.  The frame is in good solid condition.  The medallions show some tarnish and discoloration with one of them being better than the other.  Please take a look at the photos for additional information.
My history of this piece is murky.  There was another one sold at auction back in 2017.  That frame held a picture of Washington and on the back, written in pencil, a note that it was from the American Centennial which was held in Philadelphia in 1876 though the frame has "1776" written on the back.  There is another one of these listed currently on Etsy with a bit more information though I can't confirm their information but potential buyers may find it interesting.
