    Description

1985 Chevrolet C70 Water Pumper Truck, this truck is in very good condition for its age.
It has very low accurate mileage (14,270 mi) because it was a former military base fire truck, this truck never left that base and was not stored outside while it was on base. Next it was delivered to the US Forestry Service. It then became a volunteer fire department truck.
The truck runs just fine, it has air brakes and an automatic transmission. The driveline is heavy duty 4 wheel drive. The engine is a Detroit Diesel 8.2T 500 cubic inches, it starts right up and self increases idle until the air brake tanks fill up and the engine warms up.
The front mounted water pumper pump is in great shape. The instruments are all visible and easy access for the pump operator. The engine front shaft spins all the time, but to use the pump you still need to engage the pump from the front bumper area. (do not run pump without water running through it).
There is a water tank in the bed area of this truck. The tank holds 750 gallons.
The service tool storage body has lots of storage spaces. There are personnel grab handles down both sides and the rear of the body. The top of the body has storage rack areas for long items, (hoses, poles, etc.). Ladder racks are down both sides and on top of bed. Breathing air tank storage racks are pictured. There are 4 moveable extending/swivel area lighting poles on the truck bed. The cab has 2 air horns mounted on the top of the cab. There are red emergency lights mounted on rear of bed. There is a back up alarm also. The interior is in great shape, no rips in the seats and the dash pad is intact and not cracked. The door pulls are removed/missing for some reason. All the glass is intact, no cracks.
The tires are not new, but do have great tread left and all hold air. The brakes all work good, but some squeal a bit when you first drive it if its been sitting for months. but they clear up fast when driving. Travel speed is about 60-65 tops down hill, in 2 wheel drive. Driving in 4 wheel drive is for mostly off road, mud, ice and snow and at a much slower speed. The engine has lots of power. The engine sits way low in the engine compartment, so you have to really reach a ways to be able to get to anything on the engine. The transfer case speed and selector levers are a bit stiff to engage or disengage. Maybe from not being used very much?  The turning radius in 4 wheel drive is not as tight as you would think being its a short wheel base. Driving in 2 wheel drive I did not notice it so much. There is water staining coming out of the radiator cap and thermostat areas, (green colors in engine photos). I installed a new air brake valve and fittings on the air pump. There are 2 dents in the rear step deck on the rear bumper, its diamond plate aluminum that has a bend located at the right side end of the rear bumper and then another dingy just 3 feet to the left of that.
For anyone who wants to have just a big heavy duty 4X4 truck with a service body, this truck would be easy enough to remove the front located water pumper unit that is mounted to the work platform bumper, then remove the 750 gallon water tank in the bed. You would have a great low mileage heavy duty 4X4 truck with a diesel and auto trans. Leaving the front shaft intact to run a front winch or some other PTO operated equipment, what ever you might need.
Any other info or photos that you might need, just ask and I will get you an answer.
    Thanks for looking.
